LIBRE at 9th Annual New England Walk for Burn Survivors
Saturday was a beautiful day in Boston for the 9th Annual New England Walk for Burn Survivors put on by the Burn Survivors of New England (BSoFNE). A team from the LIBRE project attended the gorgeous walk around the Charles River to support the great work of our friends at the BSoFNE.
The walk raised a little over $14,000 which will be used to help send burn survivors to this years World Burn Congress in Anaheim, CA and to support the many BSoFNE burn survivor programs. The BSoFNE supports the mission of the Phoenix Society by promoting peer support to burn survivors, fundraising and special events.
We’re happy to report that we enjoyed good sun, good friends, and delicious food donated by Jacob Wirth, a favorite Boston restaurant. Our faithful canine companion, Nacho, also enjoyed taking a dip in the river!

Interviews Complete!
We have just completed the last of our interviews for this phase of the LIBRE project, and we couldn't be happier! The feedback and insight we received on the questions we hope to include in the LIBRE measurement tool was wonderful.
We're also so grateful for the interest of the burn survivor community and the willingness to participate in our interviews. Your help will make the LIBRE tool accurately measure the social recovery of burn survivors. So thank you to everyone who took the time to participate in an interview!
Of course the fun never stops at LIBRE headquarters. We’re already starting to analyze the results from these interviews and are deep into planning for the next phase.
If you didn't have a chance to provide feedback on LIBRE in our focus groups or interviews, there will be more opportunities coming up very soon. So stay tuned for more LIBRE activities!
Interviews Almost Complete: Only a Few More Burn Surivors Needed!
We've busy over at the LIBRE project, completing interviews with some amazing burn survivors. The interest from burn survivors in our project has blown us away and we feel so fortunate for the insightful, honest feedback we've received so far in these interviews.
That being said, we can still take a few more burn survivors to conduct interviews! We're hoping to finish interviews by the end of August. If you're interested in participating, you can find more information on the Become Involved page and contact us if you'd like to participant.
Burn Survivor Interviews Have Begun
LIBRE is currently recruiting burn survivors to take part in one-on-one interviews. Participants will test questions that may be included in the final LIBRE measurement tool. See here for more details.
4 Focus Groups Completed!
During March 2014, LIBRE held 4 focus groups with burn survivors and clinicians. Feedback provided by these focus groups is currently being used to help develop the LIBRE measurement tool. This ensures that the questions asked in tool accurately reflect the burn recovery experience.
A great deal of gratitude goes out to everyone who participated in our focus groups! It is only through the help and support of the burn community that the LIBRE tool can be a success.
Lewis Kazis Gives Presentation at ABA Meeting
In March 2014, Lewis Kazis, ScD, principal investigator for the LIBRE project, presented an overview of LIBRE’s measurement tool at the American Burn Association Annual Meeting in Boston, MA. To see a copy of the presentations go here.
