Advances in quantum science and engineering are bringing the long-promised capabilities of quantum communication, computation, and sensing within reach. Yet most quantum technologies have been developed as specialized platforms optimized for individual tasks: optical photons are ideal carriers of quantum information over long distances, while superconducting circuits provide exceptional performance for quantum processing.
The next frontier is to connect these distinct quantum systems. What fundamentally new capabilities emerge when disparate quantum platforms can exchange and process quantum information seamlessly?
At the Lake Lab, we design and build quantum devices that bridge the gap between leading quantum technologies. Based in Boston University’s Photonics Center, our research combines photonic, superconducting, and semiconductor quantum systems, leveraging BU’s shared facilities, including the Optoelectronics Processing Facility and the Precision Measurement Laboratory.
