Innovative digital projects open windows into essential issues in World Christianity. They are the virtual libraries of the 21st century. With our determination to make mission scholarship available to people throughout the world, free of cost, the CGCM sponsors select digital projects in collaboration with the School of Theology Library and with the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/dioa\/cyberinfrastructure\/digital-libraries\/\">Digital Initiatives and Open Access program<\/a>\u00a0at Boston University.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/koreandiaspora\/files\/2014\/08\/dacg-medallion.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/koreandiaspora\/files\/2014\/08\/dacg-medallion.jpg\" alt=\"dacg-medallion\" width=\"150\" height=\"149\" class=\"size-full wp-image-92 alignleft\" \/><\/a>The\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.dacb.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dictionary of African Christian Biography<\/a>\u00a0was founded in 1995 by Dr. Jonathan Bonk and the Overseas Ministries Study Center in New Haven, Connecticut. It is the preeminent source of information on the founding and expansion of African Christianity. In 2012, the DACB moved to Boston University, in collaboration with Africa International University in Nairobi, Kenya, and other Africa-based wiki sites. Boston University provides the IT and academic infrastructure for the DACB. Dr. Bonk serves as Executive Editor, and Project Manager Michele Sigg is a doctoral student in the School of Theology.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/koreandiaspora\/files\/2014\/08\/MissiologyThumbnail.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/koreandiaspora\/files\/2014\/08\/MissiologyThumbnail.jpg\" alt=\"MissiologyThumbnail\" width=\"153\" height=\"143\" class=\"size-full wp-image-89 alignleft\" \/><\/a>The\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/missiology\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">History of Missiology<\/a>\u00a0Website (founded 2003) focuses largely on the Protestant contribution to mission thought and practice, including theologies and strategies, reflections on the encounter between Christianity and other religions, and early observations of various cultures. The site consists of two sections: several thousand \u201cclassic\u201d texts in mission history (scanned from the Boston University collection with the assistance of Internet Archive), and biographical sketches and texts of prominent mission thinkers from the seventeenth to twentieth century.<\/p>\n<p><span><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/koreandiaspora\/files\/2016\/12\/OyFBOhwKhVGTVxEx0ZDDK_j4JxchyY_1squx0KvW0Vk-150x150.jpeg\" alt=\"oyfbohwkhvgtvxex0zddk_j4jxchyy_1squx0kvw0vk-150x150\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" class=\" size-full wp-image-789 alignleft\" \/>\u201c<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/midst\/\">In the Midst<\/a><span>\u201d is an audio autobiography of Barbara Beach Alter.\u00a0 Alter and her husband James served the American Presbyterian Church as missionaries.\u00a0 They spent 35 years in Northern India and never converted anyone \u2013 on purpose.\u00a0 When the mission board commissioned Alter, its members charged her to \u201clive in the midst\u201d of the people, wherever she was stationed.\u00a0 Her job was to be of service to those around her, rather than to proselytize or evangelize. The series of short audio pieces that make up this project explore Alter\u2019s understanding of herself as a Christian committed to social justice. She explains the influences on her decisions to practice an ecumenical form of liberal Protestantism, from early childhood through retirement.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/midst\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/koreandiaspora\/files\/2016\/12\/motive65_mar001-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"motive65_mar001-150x150\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" class=\" size-full wp-image-790 alignleft\" \/>motive<\/em><\/a><span>\u00a0(always spelled with a lowercase \u201cm\u201d) was the official magazine for the Methodist Student Movement from its founding in 1941 and, for a few years at the end of its life, for the entire University Christian Movement (UCM). Much celebrated even at the time for its\u00a0<\/span><em>avant garde<\/em><span>\u00a0editorial and artistic vision, in 1966\u00a0<\/span><em>Time<\/em><span>\u00a0magazine said it stood out among church publications \u201clike a miniskirt at a church social.\u201d It was the single runner-up to\u00a0<\/span><em>Life<\/em><span>\u00a0as Magazine of the Year in 1965. Ultimately, its strong stands on civil rights, Vietnam, and emerging gender issues became more than the Methodist Church officials could take. The\u00a0magazine\u00a0ceased publication in 1972. Even so, an entire generation of religious activists were shaped by its vision.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/koreandiaspora\/files\/2014\/08\/apostolic-prophet-framed1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/koreandiaspora\/files\/2014\/08\/apostolic-prophet-framed1.jpg\" alt=\"apostolic-prophet-framed\" width=\"126\" height=\"180\" class=\"wp-image-95 alignleft\" \/><\/a><span>The\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/shonareligion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Old &amp;\u00a0New in\u00a0Shona Religion<\/a><span>\u00a0website\u00a0represents forty-five years of research among African Initiated Churches and traditionalists in Southern Africa\u00a0by Professor\u00a0M.L. Daneel, beginning in 1965. Over a thousand\u00a0of Daneel\u2019s photos have been scanned and are available for viewing online. The website also includes audio slides contextualizing photos, films, and digitized publications on the religion of the Shona people of Southern Africa.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/sth-history\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/koreandiaspora\/files\/2016\/12\/J.-W.-Bowen-433x636-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"j-w-bowen-433x636-150x150\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" class=\" size-full wp-image-791 alignleft\" \/>The People\u2019s History of the School of Theology<\/a><span>\u00a0is convinced that the history of the School of Theology is written though the lives of its students and graduates.\u00a0 Decisions by the Board of Trustees, statistical breakdowns of the student body, or the evolution of degrees can only tell one part of the history.\u00a0 The people\u2019s stories\u2013those whose lives\u00a0 animate the institution\u2013capture the spirit of the School of Theology, and carry its legacy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"\/koreandiaspora\/files\/2014\/08\/russian-methodist-church1-150x150.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/koreandiaspora\/files\/2014\/08\/russian-methodist-church1-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"russian-methodist-church1-150x150\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" class=\"size-full wp-image-90 alignleft\" \/><\/a><\/strong><a href=\"\/koreandiaspora\/files\/2014\/08\/russian-methodist-church1-150x150.jpg\"><\/a>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/russianmethodismarchive\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Russian Methodism Archive<\/a>\u00a0documents the history of Russian Methodism in the twentieth century. Launched in collaboration with the United Methodist Seminary in Russia, the Archive is in the process of collecting, scanning, and posting online important letters, magazines, photographs, and other materials. Of special note is the extensive collection of the Reverend Bruce Weaver, who headed the Russia Initiative of the United Methodist Church for fifteen years.
