\"\"<\/a> I am an associate professor of political science (and Director of Undergraduate Studies) at Boston University and Associate Director at the Initiative on Cities.<\/a>\u00a0I\u00a0joined BU in 2012 after receiving my\u00a0Ph.D. in Government and Social Policy at Harvard University.<\/span>\u00a0My\u00a0<\/span>research and teaching interests broadly include local politics and policy, racial and ethnic politics, and American public policy. \u00a0I have taught courses on urban politics and policy, inequality in American politics, race and politics, and HBO’s The Wire–a course described by boston.com<\/a>\u00a0as the “coolest class to take at BU.” My\u00a0first book\u00a0<\/span>Do Facts Matter? Information and Misinformation in Democratic Politics\u00a0<\/span><\/i>(with Jennifer Hochschild, University of Oklahoma Press 2015) investigates the harmful effects of misinformation on democratic politics.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

My most recent book (with David Glick and Maxwell Palmer) Neighborhood Defenders: Participatory Politics and America’s Housing Crisis<\/a>\u00a0(Cambridge University Press 2019) explores the politics of housing development. \u00a0My\u00a0work has been\u00a0published in multiple peer-reviewed journals, including the\u00a0American Journal of Political Science, American Politics Research,\u00a0<\/span><\/i>British Journal of Political Science,<\/i>\u00a0Perspectives on Politics,\u00a0Political<\/em> Behavior, Presidential Studies Quarterly,\u00a0<\/i>and\u00a0<\/i>Urban Affairs Review.<\/i>\u00a0I am currently the co-principal investigator of the Menino Survey of Mayors<\/a>, a 10-year survey of U.S. mayors exploring a wide variety of political and policy issues.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span>\u00a0My\u00a0research has been supported by grants from the National Science Foundation, the Russell Sage Foundation, and the Rockefeller Foundation.<\/span><\/p>\n

I serve on the editorial boards of the American Journal of Political Science<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0Urban Affairs Review,<\/em> and am a faculty affiliate of Boston University’s\u00a0Hariri Institute for Computing and Computation Science & Engineering<\/a>, and\u00a0Department of African American Studies<\/a>.<\/p>\n
