He earned his BA in Music at Brown University and his PhD in Music Theory at the University of Washington in 2006 under the direction of John Rahn. He was co-Editor-in-Chief of the<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tandfonline.com\/loi\/tmam20\"><span>\u00a0<\/span><em>Journal of Mathematics and Music<\/em><\/a><span> from 2018\u20132023 and is currently an associate editor of <\/span><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.perspectivesofnewmusic.org\/\">Perspectives of New Music<\/a><\/em><span>. He has served on the editorial board of\u00a0<\/span><em><a href=\"https:\/\/mtosmt.org\/\">Music Theory Online<\/a><\/em><span>\u00a0and in various capacities for the\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/societymusictheory.org\">Society for Music Theory<\/a><span>, the\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.smcm-net.info\/\">Society for Mathematics and Computation in Music<\/a><span>, the\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.necmt.org\/\">New England Conference of Music Theorists<\/a><span>, and the\u00a0<\/span>Northeast Music Cognition Group<span>, and is founder and former chair of the\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/societymusictheory.org\/\">Society for Music Theory<\/a><span>&#8216;s <a href=\"https:\/\/societymusictheory.org\/interest-groups\/mathematics\">Mathematics of Music interest group<\/a>. His work addresses a range of topics, from mathematical theories of rhythm and harmonic spaces to eighteenth-century form to music perception and scale theory.
