The Iberian Modernist Studies Forum at Boston University is housed in the Department of Romance Studies and directed by Professor Nicolás Fernández-Medina.

The Iberian Modernist Studies Forum draws together researchers and students from Boston University and across the globe interested in cross- and multidisciplinary dialogue on the aesthetic, socio-historical, and philosophical transformations that fundamentally shaped Iberian culture throughout the modernist period. Through its activities and outreach, it offers a view of Iberian modernisms that differs from traditional perspectives, which are generally centered on separately treating the national cultures of the Iberian Peninsula. Our aim lies in approaching the cultures of Portugal, Spanish-speaking Spain, Catalonia, Galicia, and the Basque Country through dialogue and by studying their cultural exchanges and points of contact within regional, (trans)national, and global contexts. Ultimately, the forum embraces all of these modernisms by means of their inherent multidisciplinarity.

The Graduate Research Assistant for the Iberian Modernist Studies Forum for 2025-26 is Íñigo Huércanos Esparza (inh@bu.edu).
