Professor Sheila Sitomer
Professor Sitomer is an award-winning executive producer, executive editor, producer, director and writer with wide-ranging experience in network, syndicated, cable and local television. She executive produced “Inside Edition” and “Extra”, two long-running nationally syndicated daily magazine shows. Under her leadership at “Inside Edition”, the show received the George Polk, National Headliner, Deadline Club, IRE, American Women in Radio and Television, and Sigma Delta Chi Awards. By then, she had already worked on a variety of magazine shows in Pittsburgh, and the New York market where she received two Emmys for her work.
In her more than two decades at ABC, she was an executive producer on network specials, and co-managed ABC News All Media, an in-house production unit which developed, pitched and produced programming for sale to cable. Her first job at ABC was as field producer /DGA director and control room AD on “Good Morning America”. She later developed the weekend edition of “Good Morning America”. Sitomer also handled Broadcast Standards for multiple broadcasts and digital platforms at ABC News.
She began her career as a production coordinator for a New York City TV commercial production company and then spent time in Boston as an associate producer on numerous programs for WCVB-TV (ABC affiliate) and the TV production unit of Houghton Mifflin. She even did a stint as a casting coordinator on an NBC game show in Los Angeles.
One of her proudest accomplishments is the Warm Coats and Warm Hearts Drive, which she helped put together with Burlington Coat Factory and the non-profit One Warm Coat for “GMA”. In its 12 years, more than 2 million gently worn and new coats were distributed to those in need.
Professor Sitomer teaches Creative Producing and The Business of New York. Her intent is to pass along her real-world experience and expertise in a variety of formats, as well as provide a forum where students can speak with film and television professionals about opportunities in the industry as they prepare to embark on their own careers.
