Robert Gould Shaw and 54th regiment memorial, sculptured by Augustus Saint-Gaudens and unveiled in 1897, commemorates the sacrifices of 54th regiment memorial and its colonel Shaw. Although it serves as the model of heroism and race egalitarianism, in the following decade of the unveiling ceremony, American society had not followed its spirit.
