King’s Chapel Burial Ground was established in 1630 and is considered the oldest burial ground in Boston. This burial ground is the final resting place for many notable Puritans including John Winthrop who was the first governor of Massachusetts and Elizabeth Pain the inspiration behind Nathaniel Hawthorne’s The Scarlett Letter.
