Towards this end, our previous and ongoing research includes developing new models for pulmonary cell engraftment, in which we transplant new primary or engineered cells into the lung with the hope of replacing diseased or damaged cells. Through these techniques, we not only test the efficacy of potential cell based therapies for different diseases, but also have a tool to study cell interactions within these contexts. More information to come as projects develop!<\/p>\n
<img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/herrigeslab\/files\/2025\/05\/Surf-2-636x636.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"287\" height=\"287\" class=\"wp-image-58\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/herrigeslab\/files\/2025\/05\/Surf-2-636x636.jpg 636w, https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/herrigeslab\/files\/2025\/05\/Surf-2-1024x1022.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/herrigeslab\/files\/2025\/05\/Surf-2-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/herrigeslab\/files\/2025\/05\/Surf-2-768x767.jpg 768w, https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/herrigeslab\/files\/2025\/05\/Surf-2-1536x1533.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/herrigeslab\/files\/2025\/05\/Surf-2-550x550.jpg 550w, https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/herrigeslab\/files\/2025\/05\/Surf-2-710x710.jpg 710w, https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/herrigeslab\/files\/2025\/05\/Surf-2-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/herrigeslab\/files\/2025\/05\/Surf-2-600x600.jpg 600w, https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/herrigeslab\/files\/2025\/05\/Surf-2.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 287px) 100vw, 287px\" \/>
4 days post transplantation of GFP+ (green) lung epithelial cells into the left lobe of a mouse’s lungs.
