Michael obtained his PhD at the University of Pennsylvania. During this time he worked in the lab of Dr. Ed Morrisey studying the role of lncRNAs in pulmonary development and homeostasis. After completing his thesis, Michael did a postdoctoral fellowship in Dr. Darrell Kotton’s Lab at Boston University. During this fellowship he developed a system for the differentiation and engraftment of ESC-derived lung epithelial progenitors. Having established his own lab, Michael now aims to improve cell engraftment techniques and use these methods to study cell-cell interactions and potential cell therapies for pulmonary disease.<\/p>\n

Outside of the lab Michael enjoys spending time with his family, playing board games and TTRPGs, and cooking.<\/p>\n

Payel Basak, MBBS<\/strong><\/p>\n

Payel is a Research Fellow and Lab Manager in the Herriges Lab at the Center for Regenerative Medicine (CReM) at Boston University. She received her M.B.B.S. from the College of Medicine & JNM Hospital in India, where she began her journey as a physician with a commitment to healing. Driven to address the limitations of clinical medicine, she transitioned to biomedical research, crossing continents to pursue advanced scientific training.<\/p>\n

Her initial research experience at the University of Pittsburgh introduced her to the field of stem cell biology and regenerative medicine, which ultimately led her to the Kotton Lab at the CReM. Currently, Payel\u2019s work focuses on the engraftment of human lung epithelial cells into the mouse lung and understanding the mechanisms of lung development and regeneration, with an emphasis on its translational applications.<\/p>\n

When she’s not in the lab, Payel regenerates herself by listening to music, experimenting in the kitchen, or exploring new destinations.<\/p>\n

Karin is a Pediatric Pulmonology Fellow at Boston Children’s Hospital and a member of the Herriges Lab. She received her M.D. from Universidad Esp\u00edritu Santo in Ecuador, where she cultivated her passion for caring for children with complex respiratory conditions.<\/p>\n

Following medical school,Karin<\/span>completed her pediatric residency at SUNY Downstate Medical Center in New York City. She has also gained research experience at McMaster University and Weill Cornell Medical Center, where she developed her interest in combining clinical care with translational science.<\/p>\n

In the Herriges Lab, Karin<\/span>is studying cell transplant therapy in models of bronchopulmonary dysplasia, with the goal of developing novel regenerative treatments for children with chronic lung disease.<\/p>\n

Outside of medicine and research,Karin<\/span>enjoys running, exploring the city, discovering new food spots, and traveling.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Olivia Dinwoodie, PhD\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Olivia is a post-doctoral fellow in the Herriges Lab at the Centre for Regenerative Medicine (CReM) at Boston University. She received her PhD from King\u2019s College London, working in the Lab of Prof Abigail Tucker studying Wnt-responsive stem\/progenitor cells in the tympanic membrane.<\/p>\n

Following her doctoral studies, Olivia transitioned into pulmonary research, joining Dr. Xingbin Ai\u2019s group at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital.<\/p>\n

Her current research in the Herriges Lab focuses on cell transplantation into the alveolar region of the lung, with a particular emphasis on applying this approach to models of pulmonary fibrosis.<\/p>\n

Outside of the lab Olivia enjoys hiking, cycling, and digging through thrift shops.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
