Does this event cost anything?
No. This event is free for all undergraduate students only.
Are there any requirements for attendance?
An introductory statistics course and/or statistical software (e.g., R, SAS, Stata, Python, SQL) coding course. Participants must be registered for the event.
What exactly will I do at the hackathon?
You will work in groups to answer a question related to public health and health equity by conducting a data analysis using R Programming Language (RStudio). Groups will select one question from several provided. Participants will be provided with a data set and codebook and will work in teams (with support from a mentor) to review the data, identify relevant variables, conduct statistical analysis, and interpret key results. Each team will prepare 1-2 slides to present their results at the end of the event. A prize will be awarded to one group based on the work accomplished during the event.
What should I bring?
Your laptop and laptop charger. We ask that you download R and RStudio prior to the event. We will send instructions to download these programs to registered participants in the week leading up to the event.
