Early collaboration with <a href=\"https:\/\/dornsife.usc.edu\/labs\/culture-and-mental-health\/dr-lopez\/\">Dr. Steven R. L<span>\u00f3<\/span>pez<\/a> at the University of Southern California influenced my thinking on how to think about culture and adaptation. In designing and testing the Culturally Adapted Motivational Interview (CAMI), I have worked over the years with <a href=\"https:\/\/connects.catalyst.harvard.edu\/Profiles\/display\/Person\/6367\">Dr. Dharma Cort<span>\u00e9<\/span>s<\/a> at Cambridge Health Alliance, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.addiction-ssa.org\/author\/dr-raul-caetano\/\">Dr. Raul Caetano<\/a> at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uml.edu\/academics\/provost-office\/contact\/falcon-luis.aspx\">Dr. Luis Falc<span>\u00f3<\/span>n<\/a> at the University of Massachusetts, Lowell. The Brown Research Group, comprised of <a href=\"https:\/\/vivo.brown.edu\/display\/scolby\">Dr. Suzanne Colby<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/vivo.brown.edu\/display\/drohseno\">Dr. Damaris Rohsenow<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/vivo.brown.edu\/display\/rmartinm\">Dr. Rosemarie Martin<\/a>, has also been the main collaborators in this work. More currently, in this implementation research study, I am collaborating with implementation scientist <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/sph\/profile\/mari-lynn-drainoni\/\">Dr. Mari-Lynn Drainoni<\/a> and mental health expert <a href=\"https:\/\/cpr.bu.edu\/bio\/kim-t-mueser-ph-d\/\">Dr. Kim Mueser.<\/a> We are doing a cost analysis of the CAMI, led by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/sph\/profile\/jake-morgan\/\">Jake Morgan PhD<\/a> at the BU School of Public Health, and other co-Investigators, including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/care\/faculty\/christine-pace\/\">Dr. Christine Pace<\/a>, Executive Medical Director of the Boston Affordable Care Organization.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Role as a Mentor<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: left;\">My mentees include<a href=\"https:\/\/www.socialwork.pitt.edu\/people\/victor-figuereo\"> Dr. Victor Figuereo<\/a>, now Assistant Professor at the University of Pittsburgh School of Social Work, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.umassmed.edu\/dio\/about\/meet-the-team\/lynn-hernandez\/\">Dr. Lynn Hernandez,<\/a> Vice-Chancellor for D<span>iversity and Inclusion at the University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School, <a href=\"https:\/\/tssw.tulane.edu\/audrey-hang-hai\">Dr. Audrey Hang Hai, PhD<\/a>, now Assistant Professor at Tulane University School of Social Work, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgew.edu\/department\/psychology\/dr-alice-wenjui-cheng\">Dr. Alice Cheng, PhD<\/a>,\u00a0 Assistant Professor, Department of Psychology, Bridgewater State University. The brilliant Teena Hallett (MSW expected 2024) was an Addiction Research Fellow at the BU School of Social Work in the HEAL Lab and is now Project Manager<\/span>\u00a0of <a href=\"https:\/\/nasen.org\/sep\/ahope-boston-public-health-commission\">AHOPE Needle Exchange, Boston Public Health Commission<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: left;\"><span>I\u00a0 mentor several individuals on their NIH K-awards, including <\/span><span><a href=\"https:\/\/vivo.brown.edu\/display\/rrosale4\">Dr. Robert Rosales, PhD<\/a>,\u00a0 Assistant Professor, Research Scholar Track in the Department of Behavioral and Social Sciences at Brown University, <a href=\"https:\/\/medicine.yale.edu\/profile\/angela-haeny\/\">Dr. Angela Haeny<\/a>, Director of the Racial Equity and Addiction Lab at Yale University, and <a href=\"https:\/\/vivo.brown.edu\/display\/dzelaya1\">Dr. David Zelaya, PhD<\/a>,\u00a0 an Assistant Professor (Research) at Brown University School of Public Health (SPH) within the Center for Alcohol and Addiction Studies (CAAS), Department of Behavioral and Social Sciences and a research fellow at Harvard Medical School within the Department of Psychiatry. <\/span><\/p>\n<ul><\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Community Engagement and Volunteer Research<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: left;\">I have been most fortunate to work with experts in the community, including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/liliana-torres-bonilla-phd-lmhc-363018b0\/\">Liliana Torres, PhD<\/a>, now Clinical Manager at Boston Medical Center and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/zulma-liriano-2b539214\/?locale=es_ES\">Zulma Montana,<\/a>\u00a0 Director at Lawrence Prospera. I am proud of my volunteer and service work in the community, which includes helping to establish a successful Integrated Behavioral Health Program at <a href=\"https:\/\/sechc.org\/se\/\">South End Community Health Center<\/a>, which is now affiliated with East Boston Mental Health. For this, I helped to train primary care and behavioral health clinicians in integrated care. I collaborated on this with Ray Walden, LCSW and\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/laurie-goldman-82945843\/\">Dr. Laurie Goldman<\/a> who is the director of psychology training at South End Community Health Center.\u00a0 I am also part of the Grayken SUDA Group\u00a0 led by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/camed\/profile\/miriam-komaromy\/\">Miriam Komaromy<\/a>, Medical Director, working to improve substance use treatment for Black and Latino\/a\/x adults.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Research Collaborators I started as a Research Assistant working for Dr. Robert Carter on racial and ethnic identity and who is now doing groundbreaking work on racial trauma at Columbia University.
