{"id":437,"date":"2016-08-16T13:56:30","date_gmt":"2016-08-16T17:56:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/guentherlab\/?page_id=437"},"modified":"2017-03-14T19:23:00","modified_gmt":"2017-03-14T23:23:00","slug":"bmi-robots","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/guentherlab\/research-projects\/bmi-robots\/","title":{"rendered":"Brain-Machine Interfaces for Robotic Control"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In\u00a0a collaboration between the Guenther lab and the <a href=\"http:\/\/nl.bu.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\">Neuromorphics lab<\/a> at Boston University, we developed an EEG-based brain-machine interface (BMI) for controlling an adaptive\u00a0mobile agent consisting of an iRobot Create enhanced with a\u00a0rotatable camera and robotic arm. Using EEG signals, the user can navigate the mobile robot to a desired\u00a0location in a room, orient the camera to fixate on a target object, and pick up an attended object with the robotic\u00a0arm. The video below, created by Sean Lorenz, illustrates the navigation component of this system.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/MlGWvioKalU\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span>In a second collaboration with Dr. Daniela Rus and colleagues at MIT&#8217;s Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL), we are developing a BMI that uses error-related potentials detected in a human observer using electroencephalography (EEG) to correct movements of a robotic arm.
