Undergraduate Researchers
- Matthew Manberg, B.A. and M.S. Boston University (’25), currently at BU’s Schmitt lab. His primary research while at BU was forecasting Harmful Algae Blooms in the Charles River utilizing an Empirical Dynamic Modeling approach.
- Hannah Connell, B.A. Boston University (’25). Her research usesd3D photogrammetry to analyze fine-scale structural complexity and coral recovery of Caribbean coral reefs.
- Eva Romero, B.A. Boston University (’25). Eva majored in both Marine Science and Computer Science at BU. Her thesis research tackled new directions in coral photomosaic data analysis.
- Charlotte Vogel, B.A. Boston University (’25). Charlotte worked analyzing coral data using CoralNet and wrote an undergraduate honors thesis focused synthesizing a to better understand the long term impacts of coral restoration.
- Nina Zhao, B.A. and M.S. Boston University (’24). Nina served assisted the lab with coordination and researched saltmarsh sparrow nesting success at Parker River National Wildlife Refuge.
- Zoë Ertürk, B.A. Boston University (’24).

- Ian Kwit, B.A. Boston University (’23).
- Gabriel Calistro, B.A. Boston University (’23). Gabe established a pipeline to process photomosaics at a large scale using CoralNet, a machine learning point annotation software. Over a half-million points have been processed and analyzed from Laughing Bird Caye National Park.
- Russell Laman, B.A. Boston University (’22), award-winning wildlife photographer and filmmaker published with BBC Earth and NatGeo. Following graduation, Russell conducted research through a grant from the Explorers Club as a Stephenson Explorers Fellow to analyze the success of coral reef restoration in Raja Ampat, Indonesia.
