John Hertz

I study the poetry of Chaucer and his contemporaries within the overlapping frameworks of medieval manuscript and early print cultures. By studying Chaucer’s works as both literary texts and manufactured objects, I intend to uncover and interpret the medieval acts of reading that are encoded in the production, distribution, and consumption of Chaucerian manuscripts and incunabula.
