Associate Director for Research, Ruth Paris, PhD, LICSW (SSW) and Mei Elansary, MD, MPhil (MED\/PEDS) have been awarded two grants to support the study entitled: The First Year of an Infant\u2019s Life for Families in Recovery. The BUMC Clinical & Transitional Science Institute and the BU Initiative on Cities will fund the work. Eileen Costello, MD (MED\/PEDS) will participate as a Co-Investigator.<\/p>\n

Given the risks of relapse, overdose, death, family dissolution and trauma for mothers in substance use recovery, Paris, Elansary and Costello will track the experiences of a group of mothers and babies from the SOFAR clinic at Boston Medical Center during the first year after delivery using a prospective mixed methods design. The project\u2019s goals are to identify short- and long-term risk and resiliency factors for further study and intervention development.<\/p>\n
