The main focus of these studies is on wearable devices. Dr McCrory currently has 4 funded research projects in this area. Read more about the projects below.<\/p>\n<h3>Automatic Ingestion Monitor (AIM)<\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/eatingresearch\/files\/2022\/03\/IMG_3272-636x399.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-397 alignright\" width=\"835\" height=\"524\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/eatingresearch\/files\/2022\/03\/IMG_3272-636x399.png 636w, https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/eatingresearch\/files\/2022\/03\/IMG_3272.png 742w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 835px) 100vw, 835px\" \/>The AIM was developed by Dr Edward Sazonov, Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa <a href=\"https:\/\/eng.ua.edu\/eng-directory\/dr-edward-sazonov\/\">Dr. Edward Sazonov \u2013 College of Engineering | The University of Alabama (ua.edu)<\/a>.\u00a0The AIM combines an optical sensor to detect chewing with a micro-camera to take pictures of foods and beverages as they are being eaten. The device can be worn on a user\u2019s own eyeglasses or researcher-supplied eyeglasses without corrective lenses. Read more about Dr Sazonov\u2019s lab here (<a href=\"http:\/\/claws.eng.ua.edu\/index.php\/people\/6-faculty\/53-edward-sazonov\">Edward Sazonov, Ph.D. (ua.edu)<\/a>).\u00a0The AIM can be used to monitor and measure when, how much, how often food is consumed, calorie and nutrient intake, and track changes in eating patterns over time that occur naturally or as a result of dietary interventions. It is pinned into clothes at the upper chest level and takes pictures every 1-5 seconds of food and beverages as they are being consumed. The eButton can be used to monitor and measure when, how much, how often food is consumed, calorie and nutrient intake, and track changes in eating patterns over time that occur naturally or as a result of dietary interventions.
