This topic aims to explore the civic, social, and psychological implications of today\u2019s media landscape and social networks on and off the screen.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/demsconference\/files\/2019\/04\/Poster-Screentime-1NEW-491x636.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"491\" height=\"636\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-2065\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/demsconference\/files\/2019\/04\/Poster-Screentime-1NEW-491x636.jpg 491w, https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/demsconference\/files\/2019\/04\/Poster-Screentime-1NEW-768x994.jpg 768w, https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/demsconference\/files\/2019\/04\/Poster-Screentime-1NEW-791x1024.jpg 791w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 491px) 100vw, 491px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Emerging Media Studies is an inherently interdisciplinary field, and as such we welcome abstracts from a variety of disciplines on a range of topics centered around our conference theme. <\/p>\n<p><P>Topics include, but are not limited to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Analysis of online interest groups\/discussion forums, communities, and their relationships as well as interactions within the digital space.<\/li>\n<li>The role of social media in redefining the mediated human connection in terms of knowledge gain, information exchange, identify formation, and other related outcomes. <\/li>\n<li>How emerging media technologies affect human interaction in different aspects of social life including politics, health, well-being, sociability and entertainment.<\/li>\n<li>How human connections\/connectedness vary between the virtual and real worlds, going beyond simple online vs. offline comparisons.<\/li>\n<li>Self-presentation on social media and digital privacy concerns related to location- based advertising and in-real-life meetings.<\/li>\n<li>How video games, virtual reality, and augmented reality alter (or do not alter) real-world human connection.<\/li>\n<li>(Re)evaluating cross-cultural communication online and how that has been facilitated or diminished by the rise of streaming services like Netflix, Hulu, YouTube, etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><\/P><\/p>\n<p>Going off from the rough explications of this year\u2019s theme above, we offer the following tentative topics, the research papers under which are deemed eligible for submission.
