AWARDS & HONOURS
On the Chinese New Year’s Eve, In the Name of Confucius received the “Outstanding Achievement of Humanitarian Award” given by the IndieFEST Film Awards to only 10 films of all entries in 2017. (Learn more)
In October last year, our film was nominated for two awards at the Orlando Film Festival in Florida: “Best Documentary Feature” and “Social Awareness.” It was also selected as one of the “Best of the Fest” films. (Learn more)
FULL-HOUSE SCREENINGS
From Tokyo to Warsaw, In the Name of Confucius saw highly successful screenings. A Polish theatre was packed with people who were keen to learn about China. (Learn more) In Japan, attendees of an international human rights conference praised the film for exposing the hidden agenda of the Chinese Communist Party. BEIJING INTERFERENCE
Two days before the Tokyo screening, the Chinese embassy pressured the Japanese government to have the screening of our film cancelled, saying that the event would jeopardize the Sino-Japan friendship. Japan didn’t bow to the Chinese pressure. (Learn more)
IMPORTANT DEVELOPMENT
Washington D.C., USA — The director of the FBI said at a senate Intelligence Committee briefing that they are watching warily the development of the Confucius Institutes in America, and are investigating some of them. (Learn more)
Florida — Senator Marco Rubio wrote to five Florida schools, urging them to close their Confucius Institutes. And the University of West Florida has confirmed that it would not renew its CI agreement ending this spring. (Learn more)
Boston — The Tibet Action Institute has launched a campaign against the Confucius Institute at the University of Massachusetts Boston. (Learn more)
