Lab Space
The Cueny lab occupies the West end of the 9th floor of the Life Sciences and Engineering Building. We have an office space containing student desks that is separate from the main lab area. There is a main lab area (920 LSE) that contains the fume hoods and a support lab area (924 LSE) that has instruments and storage.
The main lab area that has four large (12 ft.) fume hoods each with a Schlenk line hooked up to N2 and a Welch belt drive vacuum pump. The main lab has two MBraun double gloveboxes with solvent from the solvent purification system (SPS) plumbed directly to the gloveboxes. We have four large ovens for glassware drying. The main lab also has a UV-vis and a part of one fume hood is dedicated to working with hydrogen gas. The main lab also has a small fridge and a full size freezer.
The support lab has one normal (6 ft.) fume hood, large storage area, two solvent storage rooms, and a gas storage closet. We have a GCMS in the support lab, and the 6ft. fume hood is dedicated to oxygen gas usage. The gas storage closet contains two flammable gas cabinets, one for hydrogen and the other for oxygen, there is also a space for 8% O2 balance N2 which is plumbed to the oxygen fume hood. One solvent storage room has the Pure Process Technology SPS and large flammable cabinets for solvent storage. There is another solvent storage room dedicated to chemical storage and storing chemical waste.
