{"id":6292,"date":"2025-11-26T11:40:18","date_gmt":"2025-11-26T16:40:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/crc\/?p=6292"},"modified":"2025-11-26T11:41:59","modified_gmt":"2025-11-26T16:41:59","slug":"survey-falling-confidence-that-american-businesses-will-help-stop-climate-change","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/crc\/2025\/11\/26\/survey-falling-confidence-that-american-businesses-will-help-stop-climate-change\/","title":{"rendered":"Survey: Falling Confidence that American Businesses will Help Stop Climate Change"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong>By Burt Glass<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Americans\u2019 understanding of the problem of climate change hasn\u2019t changed, but their faith in corporations\u2019 promises to address the issue is falling, according to a new opinion survey.<\/p>\n<p>In the latest Media &amp; Technology Survey from Boston University\u2019s College of Communication and IPSOS, 61% of Americans expressed the belief that climate change is predominantly being caused by human activities. This was only slightly less, and not statistically significantly different from the 64% who expressed that belief in a<span>\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/com\/articles\/survey-most-believe-companies-can-help-combat-climate-change\/\">Boston University survey<\/a><span>\u00a0<\/span>conducted in November 2022.<\/p>\n<p>The responses are consistent with<span>\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/climatecommunication.yale.edu\/publications\/climate-change-in-the-american-mind-beliefs-attitudes-spring-2025\/toc\/3\/\">other recent polling<\/a><span>\u00a0<\/span>showing steady understanding of, and concern about, climate.<\/p>\n<p>But over the same time, the survey suggests that Americans\u2019 confidence that large companies will work to address the issue slipped substantially. In 2022, 60% of respondents believed that \u201ccorporate initiatives to address climate change will make a difference,\u201d but now only 48% believe that \u2013 a statistically significant decline.
