Many of us have continued advancing our research and sharing insights throughout the summer. Joining us are Dr. Joshua Baldwin and Dr. Joan DiMicco from Emerging Media Studies; Dr. Xiaoya Jiang, specializing in Media Science; Dr. Susanna Lee and Dr. Jing Yang in Advertising; and Dr. Morgan Weiland focusing on Media Law &amp; Policy. I\u2019m excited to learn from their fresh perspectives.<br \/>\nAll COM faculty, staff, and students are warmly invited to attend the CRC\u2019s Open House on <strong>Thursday, September 18, from 4:00 to 6:00 pm.<\/strong> Co-hosted with COM\u2019s Center for Media Innovation for Social Impact (MISI), the event will feature refreshments, demonstrations of our biometric technologies, and wonderful opportunities to network with your colleagues in the College. DeFleur Distinguished Lecture Series<\/a>, we will welcome <a href=\"https:\/\/cals.cornell.edu\/people\/brooke-erin-duffy\">Dr. Brooke Erin Duffy<\/a>, Associate Professor in the Department of Communication at Cornell University. Join us on <strong>Wednesday, November 19 at 3:30 pm<\/strong> for her talk, \u201c<em>The Visibility Bind: Platform Labor, Precarity, and Resistance in the Creator Economy<\/em>.\u201d We look forward to an insightful and stimulating discussion.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/crc\/files\/2025\/09\/image1-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" class=\"alignright wp-image-6096 size-thumbnail\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/crc\/files\/2025\/09\/image1-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/crc\/files\/2025\/09\/image1-100x100.jpg 100w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Our monthly Work-in-Progress (WIP) meetings resumed on September 4. These sessions offer a fantastic opportunity to forge connections within our research community and engage in scholarly discussions with COM faculty. WIP meetings will be held on the first Thursday of each month at 3:30 pm in the CRC room B04E throughout the semester. We encourage you to participate!<\/p>\n<p>We will also continue offering research training for faculty and students on key technologies such as Meltwater and iMotions software. CRC Lab and Research Manager Amanda King is available this fall to conduct workshops introducing students to biometric research methods. If you\u2019re interested in organizing a session, please reach out to them at <a href=\"mailto:ajk90@bu.edu\">ajk90@bu.edu<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>To build on the thought leadership of our faculty fellows, the CRC is resuming its Media &amp; Technology Public Opinion Poll with national polling firm, Ipsos. Since its inception in January 2022, CRC fellows have explored public attitudes on topics including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/com\/articles\/survey-slim-majority-trust-media-hiding-huge-partisan-gap\/\">media trust<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/com\/articles\/survey-generations-genders-differ-when-it-comes-to-ai-replacing-people-for-some-jobs\/\">artificial intelligence<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/com\/articles\/survey-most-believe-companies-can-help-combat-climate-change\/\">climate change<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/com\/articles\/americans-leery-of-social-media-bans-for-journalists-who-post-content-owners-dont-like-survey-finds\/\">social media censorship<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/com\/articles\/with-dating-apps-we-doubt-them-but-wont-drop-them\/\">dating apps<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/com\/articles\/media-literacy-skills-important-to-counter-disinformation-survey-says\/\">media literacy<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/com\/articles\/big-margins-support-protections-against-ai-powered-deepfakes-on-social-media-survey-finds\/\">deepfakes<\/a>, and more.
