Mission Statement

The Campus Planning and Operations (CPO) Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Working Group will work to foster foundations of trust, respect, and open communication within the entire CPO organization so that all members of our community are seen, heard, and accepted. Our Working Group will strive to make CPO a place where all staff may flourish.

CPO is committed to fostering an environment in which our employees can thrive as their authentic selves. Spanning the four departments of Facilities Management & Operations; Informatics & Strategic Initiatives; Planning, Design & Construction; and Real Estate, our community reflects an incredible diversity of identities and areas of expertise.

Our Working Group’s efforts will run throughout CPO, promoting the goal of making a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive culture with the support of all levels of the organization.

We will utilize education, initiatives, and recommendations to improve and strengthen workplace culture, community, and belonging within the organization.

We are committed to transparency, open communication, sustained engagement, and receptiveness to feedback based upon the guiding principles below.

Guiding Principles

  • Development: Our Working Group will make recommendations to support equitable professional development opportunities within the organization, in affirmation that development opportunities must apply equally to represented and non-represented employees at all levels of seniority.
  • Equity: Our Working Group will support staff in identifying available resources that empower employees to thrive. We will make recommendations to ensure an environment at CPO in which these tools may be used without fear of reprisal or judgment. More broadly, our Working Group will advocate for changes that ensure that responsibility for an equitable environment is established and engrained in the policies and practices of CPO.
  • Community: CPO has a broad reach and our Working Group recognizes that the organization has a responsibility to reinforce these values wherever CPO intersects with the broader University or City communities. We will identify ways in which CPO may participate in community organizations and resources aligned with these goals.
  • Business: CPO leaders acknowledge the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion in strengthening community, culture, and belonging within our organization. Our Working Group will make recommendations to Leadership on ways in which the business of the department can reinforce these values. CPO will be encouraged to consider opportunities in which sourcing, planning decisions, strategic choices, and other elements of CPO operations can support our broader mission.
  • Accountability: Our Working Group recognizes that the aforementioned goals are a start, not an end. We affirm the importance of creating processes to share Working Group progress and solicit ongoing feedback within the department. Our Working Group will establish metrics to track progress toward these goals and adjust the Working Group roadmap as necessary.
