Maddie graduated from Tufts University with a B.S. in Biopsychology in 2017. As an undergraduate, she gained pre-clinical research experience helping with studies of alcohol dependence in mice and rats. Post-grad, she spent 4 years assisting with clinical research studies at McLean Hospital’s Imaging Center and then at Mass General Hospital’s Martinos Center. These experiences introduced her to a variety of neuroimaging methods (e.g., MRI, MRS, PET), as well as longitudinal assessments of cognition and clinical state in different study populations (e.g., college-aged cannabis users, veterans, older adults diagnosed with mild Alzheimer’s disease). With the GPN, Maddie hopes to build on her experience with neuroimaging techniques, while exploring coursework in neuropharmacology. Her research interests relate to changes in human brain structure and function over time – and in particular, how we can identify and utilize new therapeutics to facilitate healthy neural functioning and/or to alter the progression of disease pathologies. When not thinking about brains, Maddie is usually doing yoga, attempting (and struggling) to cook, or binge-watching a show on Netflix.
