We\u2019ve included some helpful info below to get you started thinking about which courses to select for your first semester.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Some helpful notes as you begin to select your courses:<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Major exploration course(s): <\/strong>Based on the above, start to plan which courses you&#8217;d like to take this semester. We recommend 1-3 major exploration courses. These should be courses that interest you and that could count towards a possible major, if you ultimately decide to declare it. It&#8217;s perfectly ok (and often encouraged!) to explore more than one major at once.\n<ul>\n<li><strong><\/strong>Please review the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/academics\/cas\/programs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">CAS majors<\/a> to identify which one(s) you are interested in studying. You can select &#8216;BA&#8217; next to any prospective major to see a comprehensive breakdown of its required courses.<\/li>\n<li>You can also explore<span>\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/casreg\/bu-hub-opportunities\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Hub opportunities<\/a><span>\u00a0<\/span>to find courses with interdisciplinary subjects and pathways. This may not correlate directly to a major, but it can introduce you to new subjects and help you identify areas of interest.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><span><strong>Language course: <\/strong>CAS requires all students to demonstrate or develop proficiency at or above the fourth-semester level in one language other than English. There are\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/cas\/academics\/undergraduate-education\/academic-advising\/advising\/language-advising\/foreign-language-requirement\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">multiple ways to fulfill this requirement<\/a>, including external credit. If you&#8217;re planning to complete the language requirement through coursework at BU, one of your courses this semester should likely be a language course.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><span>If you\u2019re<span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><em>new to the language<\/em><span>, you\u2019ll start with the first-semester level (usually coded as 111 \u2013 for example, Spanish 1 is CAS LS 111, Arabic 1 is CAS LY 111, etc.).\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><span>If you have<span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><em>previously studied the language<\/em><span>, you will need to take a placement test to determine what level to start with (for instance, CAS LS 112 Spanish 2, CAS LY 211 Arabic 3, CAS LK 212 Korean 4, etc.).<span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Please review the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/cas\/academics\/undergraduate-education\/academic-advising\/advising\/language-advising\/foreign-language-requirement\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u00a0CAS Language Requirement page<\/a>\u00a0for detailed information about placement tests and appropriate levels.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Hub course: <\/strong>Familiarize yourself with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/hub\/advising-and-the-hub\/hub-requirements-for-students\/hub-requirements-for-transfer-students\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Transfer Hub requirements<\/a>. Depending on your eventual major(s), you will no doubt fulfill <em>some <\/em>of your Hub requirements through major coursework.
