We\u2019ve included some helpful info below to get you started thinking about which courses to select for your first semester.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Some helpful notes as you begin to select your courses:<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Major required course(s): <\/strong>Please review the Asian Studies<span>\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/academics\/cas\/programs\/asian-studies\/ba-in-asian-studies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">major requirements<\/a><span>\u00a0<\/span>for a comprehensive breakdown of your required courses. You will likely aim to take<strong> 1-2<\/strong> major required courses this semester.\n<ul>\n<li>You can also explore Asian Studies&#8217; course offerings for the upcoming semester <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardeeschool\/academics\/courses\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>One of these courses will likely be an Asian Studies-related language course.\n<ul>\n<li><span>If you\u2019re <\/span><i><span>new<\/span><\/i><span> to the language, start with the first-semester level (e.g., CAS LC 111). <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>If you have <em>previously studied<\/em> the language, you must complete the placement test to determine the most appropriate language course to enroll in. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span><strong>Note: <\/strong>CAS requires all students to demonstrate or develop proficiency at or above the fourth-semester level in one language other than English. There are\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/cas\/academics\/undergraduate-education\/academic-advising\/advising\/language-advising\/foreign-language-requirement\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">multiple ways to fulfill this requirement<\/a>, including external credit. <\/span>Depending on your progression through the major-related language courses, you will likely fulfill this requirement.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Course of interest: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Select a course that interests you \u2013 perhaps based on subjects you\u2019ve enjoyed in the past or a new subject you\u2019re excited to try for the first time!<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If interested, you might also consider a course to fulfill your <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/academics\/cas\/programs\/natural-sciences-laboratory-requirement\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">natural science with a lab requirement<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. (Please talk with your advisor before registering for a natural science w\/ lab course, as some advanced\/external credit will fulfill this automatically.)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><span><strong>Hub course:<\/strong><\/span>\n<ul>\n<li><span>Students taking BU courses for the Asian Studies major will generally satisfy some or all the BU Hub requirements below. You therefore may <\/span><em>not\u00a0<\/em><span>need to seek out electives to fulfill these requirements:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li>Philosophical, Aesthetic, &amp; Historical Interpretation<\/li>\n<li>Social Inquiry I or II<\/li>\n<li>Diversity, Civic Engagement, &amp; Global Citizenship<\/li>\n<li>Communication<\/li>\n<li>Research &amp; Information Literacy<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>When choosing a<strong> Hub course<\/strong>, you should instead consider selecting a course or two that fulfills Hub requirements you<span>\u00a0<\/span><em>won\u2019t<span>\u00a0<\/span><\/em>fulfill with your major, including:\n<ul>\n<li>Scientific Inquiry I or II<\/li>\n<li>Quantitative Reasoning II<\/li>\n<li>Critical Thinking<\/li>\n<li>Teamwork\/Collaboration<\/li>\n<li>Creativity\/Innovation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><span>If you\u2019re not sure how to find a Hub elective, you can review our<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/casreg\/registration-instructions-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span>registration instructions<\/span><\/a><span>\u00a0for tips on browsing by Hub requirement.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li>No Hub requirements will be awarded to courses taken outside of Boston University, with the exception of some\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/admissions\/apply\/faqs-helpful-forms\/advanced-credit\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Advanced Placement (AP) or International Baccalaureate (IB) exams\/scores<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>As you search, you can also review the course descriptions to see if a course has a prerequisite*. <strong>Please note that you are responsible for completing all prerequisites listed in the course description prior to registering for that course.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>After reviewing this, we also strongly encourage you to work with your advisor, so they can help customize your schedule to your specific requirements, needs, and goals.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>*a <strong>prerequisite<\/strong> is a requirement that you must meet or complete before taking a more advanced course to ensure you have sufficient background in the material <\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/casreg\/registration-instructions-2\/\" class=\"button\" target=\"_blank\" style=\"color: #f6f9ff; background-color: #0b3d91;\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ready to register?
