Students majoring in International Relations will ordinarily, through coursework in the major, satisfy BU Hub requirements in Diversity, Civic Engagement, and Global Citizenship, as well as some requirements in Philosophical, Aesthetic and Historical Interpretation, Scientific and Social Inquiry, Communication, and the Intellectual Toolkit. Remaining BU Hub requirements will be satisfied by selecting from a wide range of available courses outside the major or, in some cases, cocurricular experiences.<\/em><\/p>\n

A typical first semester International Relations schedule looks like:<\/strong><\/p>\n

  1. CAS IR 271 <\/strong>Introduction to International Relations<\/li>\n
  2. Economics course<\/b><\/li>\n
  3. Language course<\/strong> <\/em>or<\/em> Course of interest<\/strong><\/li>\n
  4. Writing course<\/strong><\/li>\n
  5. Optional add-on:<\/em>\u00a0First-Year Seminar<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Course #1: <\/strong>CAS IR 271<\/h5>
    <\/strong><\/p>\n

    All International Relations majors must complete CAS IR 271, so we strongly encourage you to make this your first course. IR 271 explores major issues in international relations, including conflict, cooperation, and governance. It addresses dominant international relations theories and their application. In addition, it investigates state system, international law and organization, transnational actors, state behavior, and globalization. <\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/em><\/p>\n

    Course #2: Economics Course<\/h5>
    <\/strong><\/p>\n

    Economics course: <\/strong>Both\u00a0<\/span>CAS EC 101 Intro Microeconomics <\/b>and CAS EC 102 Intro Macroeconomics<\/b> courses are prerequisites for your major, so we recommend picking one for your second course. EC 101 and 102 can be taken in any order, so pick whichever one best fits into your schedule. Please note: EC 101 and 102 must be taken before some other requirements in the major, so it’s important to complete these courses early.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n

    If you have AP, IB or other advanced credit<\/a> for both <\/span>CAS EC 101 and<\/em> CAS EC 102, you can choose a course of interest explained below:<\/p>\n

    Course of interest<\/b>: Select a course that interests you \u2013 perhaps based on subjects you\u2019ve enjoyed in the past or a new subject you\u2019re excited to try for the first time!     Course #3: <\/strong>Language Course or <\/em>Course of Interest<\/h5>
    <\/strong><\/p>\n

    CAS Language Course<\/b>: CAS students must exhibit proficiency through the fourth-semester level of a language other than English. If you have not already done so, please review the<\/span> full language policy here<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n
