Transfer Hub
Entering transfer students follow a specially tailored Hub curriculum that builds on the coursework they have completed while ensuring they develop the capacities required of all BU graduates.
Transfer students take BU courses to fulfill requirements in each of the Hub areas below. You must fulfill all 10 Hub requirements in order to graduate, and Hub requirements can only be fulfilled by courses taken at Boston University. A course can fulfill more than one Hub requirement – in fact, most students will fulfill Hub requirements in 4–5 courses. Major and minor coursework will also fulfill Hub requirements.
Transfer Hub Requirements:

Important Note:
To complete your Communication Hub area, you must fulfill either Writing, Research, and Inquiry or Writing-Intensive Course. Both of these capacities require CAS WR 120 (or equivalent) as a prerequisite. Thus, unless you bring in an external course that is equivalent to WR 13TR or WR 16TR, you will need to take CAS WR 120 (or an equivalent, such as CAS EN 120 or CAS CC 101) prior to fulfilling the Communication Hub area. If you have WR 13TR or 16TR transfer course equivalency or you have taken WR 120 at BU, you may then satisfy your Communication Hub area through the following options:
- WR 151, WR 152, or WR 153: Research-writing courses that focus on specific topics or interest areas; each fulfills a Hub requirement for Writing, Research and Inquiry.
- A course of interest or a major course that fulfills a Hub requirement for Writing-Intensive Course – See the Major + Hub Guides in Step #5 of the Registration Checklist for course options that may fulfill the Writing-Intensive requirement.
