NAS Cuddlers Service Learning Group

Dr. Elisha Wachman of BMC Pediatrics is working with BUSM to start a new service learning group that will focus on pediatrics and addiction.

The cuddler program is for infants with neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS) secondary to in-utero opioid exposure. It will be based in the BMC newborn nursery and inpatient pediatrics units in collaboration with BMC Volunteer Services. Non-pharmacologic care, including infant holding, has been shown to significantly improve NAS outcomes, reducing the need for pharmacologic treatment.

Nina Gummadi (’19) and Leonie Hoyo (’20) will serve as student leaders for the program for 2016-2017. Please contact them at ngummadi@bu.edu and lmhoyo@bu.edu if you are interested in being added to the mailing list for opportunities with this program.
