2016 Residency Showcase for McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University

McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University is offering diversity stipends up to $500 for prospective residents to attend the Ninth Annual Residency Showcase on Saturday, May 7, 2016. The stipends are intended to defray travel expenses to and from Chicago for students who show promise for our training programs. Medical students who will be graduating in 2017 are eligible to apply (must be US Citizen or Permanent Resident). Applications for the stipends must be received no later than April 1, 2016, and recipients will be notified no later than April 8, 2016.

Individuals must register for and attend the event to receive the stipend. McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University is the GME sponsor for the following institutions: Lurie Children’s Hospital, Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago, Norwegian American Hospital, Lake Forest Hospital and the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center.

The showcase will take place at the Robert H. Lurie Medical Research Center, 303 East Superior Street, Chicago, IL 60611, from 9:00 am – 2:30 pmThe primary goal of this program is to diversify our residency program applicant pools, so we are particularly interested in attracting students with diverse backgrounds to attend. We define the following groups as underrepresented for all programs: Black (African/African American), Latino/Hispanic (Mexican American, Cuban, Puerto Rican, Central American, South American), Native American, Native Hawaiian, and LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender). Women are defined as underrepresented for: orthopedic surgery, surgery, neurosurgery, emergency medicine, urology, and plastic surgery. Men are defined as underrepresented for: obstetrics and gynecology, dermatology, pediatrics, and family medicine.

We have an exciting agenda planned with a resident experiences panel, program directors selection factors panel, career development keynote and a recruitment fair where representatives from our 24 residency training programs will be present. Visiting Student Elective Program for Students Underrepresented in Medicine

Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and the McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University welcome students from diverse backgrounds from the Class of 2017 to apply for senior elective rotations. We are providing stipends of up to $1,500 to qualified students to help defray the cost of an away rotation. Please review the full criteria for eligibility on the McGaw Medical Center website.

We define the following groups as underrepresented for our pediatrics program:

  • Black(African/African American)
  • Latino/Hispanic(Mexican American, Cuban, Puerto Rican, Central American, South American)
  • Native American/Native Hawaiian
  • LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender)
  • Men are also defined as underrepresented for Pediatrics
