Dear Students –
Every year, several of the pediatric residency programs offer scholarships or stipends to help defray the cost of doing an away elective at their site. As these opportunities become available I will forward the details to you with the contact information and the qualifications for application. Hopefully these will soon also all be listed on the BUSM Pediatrics Website that is run by the pediatric interest group (http://sites.bu.edu/busmpeds/).
If you have questions about the rotation, I would suggest contacting the program. If you have questions about whether you should apply (i.e. whether this would be of benefit to you in your application process) please contact your FSA or me as we are always happy to help. Pediatrics, in contrast to many other fields, encourages these away (sometimes called “audition”) rotations as a way to demonstrate interest in a program. I know that this is not necessarily true for other fields of medicine!

OHSU is offering a diversity stipend for visiting students to cover room and board during a rotation at OHSU. The goals of the program are to enhance student awareness of opportunities in academic medicine at OHSU and in Portland, to increase the number of diverse students applying to OHSU’s Residency Programs and to provide mentoring and networking for diverse students.
