SNAP Challenge: 2/2-2/8

This year, BUSM SNACC is sponsoring the SNAP challenge to raise awareness of food insecurity and the food budget provided to families who receive SNAP.  This relates nicely to the American Academy of Pediatrics Section on Medical Students, Residents, and Fellows 2014-2015 Advocacy Campaign FACE Poverty.  If you are interested in participating and writing about your experience on our blog, please email peds.busm@gmail.com

From BUSM SNACC:

SNAAC would like to invite you to join us in this year’s SNAP CHALLENGE!

This program challenges participants to live one week on a food budget of $33/person, the average budget of an individual being supported by SNAP (the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, previously Food Stamps). As many of our patients rely on SNAP to survive and feed themselves and their families, we hope that this program will help participants understand the ways in which our patients’ lives are affected by food insecurities. Participate on your own or make a “family” of up to 4 participants!
The challenge will be taking place from February 2-February 8th. Come learn more at our information session on 1/28 featuring Dr. Megan Sandel and Mr. Latchman Hiralall, in room L210! Lunch will be served! If you are interested in participating, please send us an email to snaac.busm@gmail.com.
