{"id":154,"date":"2016-08-03T15:17:22","date_gmt":"2016-08-03T19:17:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/bu-i2b2\/?page_id=154"},"modified":"2016-09-26T16:43:38","modified_gmt":"2016-09-26T20:43:38","slug":"constraints-2","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/bu-i2b2\/the-i2b2-health-outcome-monitoring-and-evaluation-home-cell\/constraints-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Constraints"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>HOME Cell numerators and denominators are defined using Groups and Constraints. \u00a0Like the i2b2 Query Tool, constraints within a group have an &#8220;or&#8221; relationship and relationships between different groups have an &#8220;and&#8221; relationship. \u00a0Constraints allow users to drag-and-drop concepts and then to define temporal relationships for the concept within\u00a0the constraint. \u00a0Available constraints are <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Occurence<\/span>, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Value<\/span>, and <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Age<\/span> constraints.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Occurrence Constraints<\/strong>\u00a0are used to define relationships related to one or two concepts over time. \u00a0When only one concept is being used, the concept can be configured to have occurred during the reference interval (see below) or to have occurred anytime during the evaluation dates. \u00a0When two concepts are being using it is also possible to configure the constraint for relationships between the concepts and to require that one or both of the concepts occur during the reference period.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/bu-i2b2\/files\/2016\/09\/occurance-636x443.jpg\" alt=\"occurance\" width=\"636\" height=\"443\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-357\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/bu-i2b2\/files\/2016\/09\/occurance-636x443.jpg 636w, https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/bu-i2b2\/files\/2016\/09\/occurance-1024x714.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/bu-i2b2\/files\/2016\/09\/occurance.jpg 1059w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 636px) 100vw, 636px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Value Constraints<\/strong>\u00a0are used to define relationships \u00a0between one or two concepts where the value of the concept (typically labs) needs to be considered. \u00a0This contraint allows specification of numeric operations such as average, min, max, earliest, latest or sum or to the text value for non-numeric values (diagnoses = problem, primary, secondary, etc.). \u00a0Value constraints can further be configured to require that the results preceed or follow\u00a0the first or latest occurrences of another concept by a min or max number of days. The Value can also be filtered to include only values with a certain range of values.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/bu-i2b2\/files\/2016\/09\/value-636x467.jpg\" alt=\"value\" width=\"636\" height=\"467\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-358\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/bu-i2b2\/files\/2016\/09\/value-636x467.jpg 636w, https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/bu-i2b2\/files\/2016\/09\/value-1024x752.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/bu-i2b2\/files\/2016\/09\/value.jpg 1056w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 636px) 100vw, 636px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Age Constraints<\/strong>\u00a0are used to define an age or age range when a concept occured. \u00a0The age contraint can also be configured to require that the patient be the age during the reference interval or at anytime during the evaluation dates.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/bu-i2b2\/files\/2016\/09\/age-636x446.jpg\" alt=\"age\" width=\"636\" height=\"446\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-362\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/bu-i2b2\/files\/2016\/09\/age-636x446.jpg 636w, https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/bu-i2b2\/files\/2016\/09\/age-1024x718.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/bu-i2b2\/files\/2016\/09\/age.jpg 1049w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 636px) 100vw, 636px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Reference Intervals\u00a0<\/strong>are used to indicate a reference period type (month, year, or date interval) to use when reporting the target outcome and is selected\u00a0on the <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/bu-i2b2\/the-i2b2-health-outcome-monitoring-and-evaluation-home-cell\/displayexecute\/\">Display\/Execute<\/a> tab. \u00a0During configuration of constraints, the reference interval can be applied to one or both concepts. \u00a0When the reference interval is applied to a concept, the query only includes concept entries with a start date during the reference interval. \u00a0For example, if\u00a0the reference interval is applied to Body Mass Index (BMI) values and &#8220;year&#8221; is the interval selected, then only patients with at least one BMI measurement during each year will be included.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/bu-i2b2\/files\/2016\/09\/new-value-constraint-636x398.jpg\" alt=\"new value constraint\" width=\"636\" height=\"398\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-399\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/bu-i2b2\/files\/2016\/09\/new-value-constraint-636x398.jpg 636w, https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/bu-i2b2\/files\/2016\/09\/new-value-constraint-1024x641.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/bu-i2b2\/files\/2016\/09\/new-value-constraint.jpg 1206w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 636px) 100vw, 636px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Below are examples of clinical concepts and a screen shot of the constraint configuration in the HOME Cell to provide examples of the constraints described above.<\/p>\n<p>Example 1:<\/p>\n<p>Clinical concept: \u00a0Include patients with a systolic blood pressure following their first diagnosis of hypertension by at least 1 day to ensure that only blood pressure after earliest diagnosis of hypertension are included in the query<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/bu-i2b2\/files\/2016\/09\/first-contraint.png\" alt=\"first contraint\" width=\"385\" height=\"386\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-441\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/bu-i2b2\/files\/2016\/09\/first-contraint.png 385w, https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/bu-i2b2\/files\/2016\/09\/first-contraint-150x150.png 150w, https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/bu-i2b2\/files\/2016\/09\/first-contraint-100x100.png 100w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 385px) 100vw, 385px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Example 2:<\/p>\n<p>Clinical concept: Patients who had at least one primary care visit during the reference year and who were &gt; 18 years at the time of that visit<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/bu-i2b2\/files\/2016\/09\/age-constraint-new.jpg\" alt=\"age constraint new\" width=\"400\" height=\"237\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-400\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Note: The was &gt; 18 years old at the time of the visit AND the visit occurred during the reference interval (which in this case would be specified as &#8220;Year&#8221;)<\/p>\n<p>Example 3:<\/p>\n<p>Clinical Concept: Patients who&#8217;s latest \u00a0Body Mass Index Value was \u00a0&gt; 30 during the reference year, excluding values &lt; 5 or greater than 60 to ignore data entered incorrectly<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/bu-i2b2\/files\/2016\/09\/BMI-.jpg\" alt=\"BMI\" width=\"379\" height=\"340\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-404\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Note: \u00a0Only the most recent BMI each year will be used to be counted must between \u00a0and 60 and be greater then 30<\/p>\n<p>Example 4:<\/p>\n<p>Clinical Concept: Patients whose most recent Systolic BP was &lt;140 AND most recent Diastolic BP was &lt;90 during each reference year, including only BP readings that followed a diagnosis of hypertension, and excluding any blood pressures less than 30 or greater than 300 mmHg.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/bu-i2b2\/files\/2016\/09\/HTN1-636x333.jpg\" alt=\"HTN\" width=\"636\" height=\"333\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-403\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/bu-i2b2\/files\/2016\/09\/HTN1-636x333.jpg 636w, https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/bu-i2b2\/files\/2016\/09\/HTN1.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 636px) 100vw, 636px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Note: \u00a0Blood pressures in the MHDR are stored as separate systolic and diastolic values.
