During the semester, most grades will be given in letter form. Within each assignment or test, each section will be assigned equal weight unless otherwise stated.<\/p>\n

To combine letter grades<\/span>, letters are first converted to numerical scores according to the following conversion table.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n

At Boston University, \u201cA\u201d means \u201cexcellent,\u201d \u201cB\u201d means \u201cvery good.\u201d\u00a0 There is nothing wrong with a \u201cB!\u201d\u00a0 (The university does not have official grades of\u00a0 “AB”, “BC” or “CD”, but otherwise this is consistent with the University’s conversion.)<\/p>\n

At the end of the semester<\/span>, grades will be averaged according to the formula announced for the course. The resulting score is converted to a letter grade as follows.<\/p>\n

To obtain an A<\/em> for the course, your course average must be 3.85<\/em> or higher
\nTo obtain an A-<\/em> for the course, your course average must be 3.7<\/em> or higher, but less than 4.0<\/em>
\nTo obtain an B+<\/em> for the course, your course average must be 3.3<\/em> or higher, but less than 3.7<\/em>
\netc.<\/p>\n

For example, grades A, F, B-<\/em> average to (4+0+2.7)\/3 = 2.23.<\/p>\n

Pass\/Fail<\/span>: A “Pass” grade for an assignment or part thereof does not affect the total grade of the assignment group that contains it. For example, grades A, P, B<\/em> average to (4+3)\/2 = 3.5.<\/p>\n

Class attendance<\/span> is mandatory, and significant lack of attendance can result in downgrading from the grade computed above<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
