Cynthia Magnolia is a Guatemalan artist known for her whimsical macabre acrylic paintings that fuse vibrant hues with eerie yet enchanting imagery. Through surreal storytelling, she explores the fragile boundary between light and darkness, life and loss, often drawing from nature, personal experiences, and the subconscious mind to create work that lingers in both memory and emotion. Growing up in Guatemala, Cynthia was surrounded by lush landscapes and rich colors, which continue to shape her artistic vision. Now based in Boston, she is completing her degree in Mental Health Counseling and Behavioral Medicine at Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine, a field that deeply informs her work. Her paintings reflect a fascination with grief—not just as sorrow, but as proof that love endures. In her world, skeletal figures sit on fields of grass, snow is made of sparkles, and the dead is full of life—where loss and love intertwine, inseparable and eternal. Her work suggests that while losing something dear is painful, love never truly vanishes; it transforms, lingers, and resurfaces in unexpected ways. With each brushstroke, she seeks to capture that age old paradox. Absence can be full and grief, in its own way, is an act of remembering love. As she continues to evolve, Cynthia pushes the boundaries of surrealism and emotional storytelling, crafting pieces that are not only seen, but felt as a whisper of the past, a dream of the unknown, a reflection of the heart’s deepest truths
