Sophomore Festival: The Seagull

Boston University School of Theatre presents the 2025 Sophomore Festival: The Seagull written by Anton Chekhov, adapted by Anya Reiss, and directed by Christine Hamel.

A successful actress visits her brother's isolated estate far from the city, throwing the frustrated residents unfulfilled ambitions into sharp relief. As her son attempts to impress with a self-penned play, putting much more than his pride at stake, others dream of fame, love and the ability to change their past. (bloomsbury.com)p>

The Sophomore Festival (Group B, Psychophysical Approach) offers students a curated and intentional casting experience that is faculty-led and tied to a class curriculum and pedagogy. It is intended to help students become familiar with the rehearsal process and the actor’s creative process/practice. Three plays would be chosen with performances occurring in Studio ONE with minimal production and design elements to introduce the students to a larger space at SOT and a repertory schedule.
