Team Members:

Lisa Rohan, Ph.D. serves as Co-Lead on Project 3 and will optimize fast- and extended-release film formulations for use with HCA. She is a Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Pittsburgh and an Investigator at Magee-Women’s Research Institute, Pittsburgh PA. She has a long track record on the development of vaginal dosing forms, and was part of the team that introduced the first antiretroviral vaginal films (dapivirine, tenofovir).

Sravan Kumar Patel, Ph.D. serves as co-investigator on the project.

Specific Aims for MWRI/UP role in Project 3:

1. Develop improved vaginal film formulations for immediate and extended HCA release.

2. Optimize the immediate-release vaginal film for use in the proposed clinical trials and transfer the technology to Benefit Coatings, the company that will manufacture the GMP HCA film for ZB-06.

3. Develop an extended duration-of-use vaginal film that can deliver an effective dose of HCA for > 3 days.
