This program provides postdoctoral scholars with the opportunity to gain substantial teaching experience while also engaging in research or curriculum development.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>PATS scholars receive an initial\u00a0<\/span>one-year appointment<span>, typically renewable for up to two additional years based on satisfactory performance. These\u00a0<\/span><span><strong>12-month, full-time positions<\/strong><\/span><span>\u00a0offer valuable experience for those pursuing faculty roles at primarily undergraduate institutions or lecturer positions in higher education.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span>Teaching and Research Opportunities<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span>PATS scholars contribute to undergraduate biology education by leading\u00a0<\/span><span><strong>discussion sections and\/or laboratory courses<\/strong><\/span><span>. In their second year, they have the opportunity to design and teach an\u00a0<\/span><span><strong>undergraduate course<\/strong><\/span><span>\u00a0in their area of expertise.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In addition to teaching responsibilities, scholars engage in\u00a0<\/span><span><strong>one of two research tracks<\/strong><\/span><span>:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol data-spread=\"false\" start=\"1\">\n<li><span><strong>Laboratory Research<\/strong><\/span><span>\u00a0\u2013 Conduct research in collaboration with a faculty mentor within the Department of Biology. Summers are primarily devoted to research activities. Interested candidates should identify and contact a potential faculty mentor to develop a research plan.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span><strong>Curriculum Development &amp; Pedagogical Research<\/strong><\/span><span> \u2013 Work on curriculum improvements and\/or educational research projects in collaboration with course instructors.
