Dr. Robin Francis
Lecturer in Biology, Boston University
I came to the PATS program with goals to secure a teaching focused faculty position. I felt like I came in with a lot of teaching experience from graduate school, however I am so glad I did this post-doc position first. I learned so much and felt so supported as I navigated so many new things. I had an incredible experience developing curriculum and leading both small, upper-division courses with undergraduate research experiences and large, introductory courses with labs. I also had the opportunity to explore pedagogical research and gained a whole new set of skills. This program has mentorship, community, and resources that were integral in developing a teaching philosophy that I am proud of.

Dr. Karina Scavo Lord
Lecturer in Biology, Boston University
The PATS program gave me the opportunity to design and teach my own course as the instructor of record, which strengthened not only my skills, but also my confidence in undergraduate teaching. Collaborating with other PATS fellows also exposed me to creative pedagogy ideas that I still draw on today. Overall, the experience was foundational in preparing me for my current position that blends teaching, mentorship, and undergraduate research.

Dr. Antonio Serrato-Capuchina
Assistant Professor of the Practice of Biology, Boston College
I came into the PATs program primarily with a research background, looking to get hands on experience developing and leading my own courses. BU and the PATs program allowed me the opportunity to lead, as instructor of record, 3 distinct courses. Personally, I found a great balance between freedom and support as I developed my pedagogical approach in both undergraduate and graduate level courses. I look fondly upon my time at BU and view the experience I gained within PATs as pivotal in achieving my goal of a primarily teaching position.

The PATS program was a great way to get independent teaching experience in a diverse range of courses, excellent preparation for a teaching-focused position.
