Kunz Fund"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/biology\/kunzfund\/images\/kunzsiting4.jpg\" alt=\"Tom Kunz\" width=\"319\" height=\"218\" border=\"3\" align=\"right\" \/>One of the world\u2019s leading authorities on the biology of bats, Professor <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/biology\/people\/faculty\/kunz\/\" style=\"font-size: 13px; font-weight: normal;\" rel=\"noopener\">T<\/a><strong><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/biology\/people\/faculty\/kunz\/\" style=\"font-size: 13px; font-weight: normal;\" rel=\"noopener\">homas H. Kunz<\/a><\/strong>, has\u00a0for the past 40+ years been an inspiring teacher to thousands of undergraduates, an enthusiastic proponent for bats and science in the public arena, and an exceptional mentor to dozens of graduate students, post-doctoral fellows, and junior faculty. Recently named a William Fairfield Warren Distinguished Professor, the highest academic honor conferred by Boston University, Tom has also been one of our most productive and highly regarded scientists.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-192 alignleft\" height=\"312\" width=\"212\" title=\"kunz7\" alt=\"kunz7\" src=\"\/biologyalumni\/files\/2013\/05\/kunz72.jpeg\" \/>In recognition and appreciation of Tom\u2019s mentorship, his current and former graduate students recently established the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/biology\/kunzfund\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><i>Thomas H. Kunz Fund in Biology<\/i><\/a>, which will become <strong>a permanent endowment that honors Tom\u2019s career and supports graduate education in ecology at Boston University<\/strong>. Rising to a challenge from Tom\u2019s students, the Biology faculty joined this effort and helped push the fund past $50,000. We are now reaching out to Tom\u2019s friends and colleagues around the world and to you, our BU Biology alumni. With the fund currently at the $70,000 mark, we would like to ask you to join us in supporting the\u00a0Thomas H. Kunz Fund in Biology and help push it past $100,ooo.<i> <\/i>The positive response we have received from Tom\u2019s students and fellow BU faculty has been exceptional \u2013 almost 100% participation! We hope we can add you to the list of contributors.<\/p>\n<p>As you may know, Tom has been on medical leave and officially retiring\u00a0at the end of May. He is still working hard to recover from the serious brain injuries he suffered in a tragic accident at the end of October 2011.
