Congratulations to the Class of 2013

June 19th, 2013

The Biology Department would like to congratulate all 2013 Biology, BMB, Marine Science, and Neuroscience graduates! The annual Biology Commencement took place on Sunday, May 19th, 2013 in the Fitness & Recreation Center. There were 175 Biology graduates this year and the student speaker was Ryan Lamm. The introductory remarks were delivered by Prof. Michael Sorenson, Chair of the Biology Department. Prof. Sorenson recalled several unfortunate events over the past year that directly affected the BU community. The Boston marathon bombing, which took the lives of three, including a BU graduate student in Computer Science, and the more recent death of an engaging and energetic senior in the BU Marine Science Program, Binland Lee. Dr. Sorenson encouraged students to follow Binland’s example by making the most of each and every day. “To treat each new day as an opportunity to work on a project you’re passionate about, to learn something new, to have a positive impact in the world, or to just relax and have a great time with friends and family.”

The BMB Commencement took place on Saturday, May 18th, 2013 in the Jacob Sleeper Auditorium. Introductory remarks were delivered by Prof. John Celenza, Director of BMB program. Prof. Celenza created a montage of POP songs that were popular over the past four years and had the whole auditorium in a chuckle. He touched on key topics that a BMB major has learned over their years here at BU. There were 46 BMB graduates this year and the student speaker was Christopher Fisher.

The main Boston University Commencement took place at Nickerson Field at 1pm, Sunday, May 19th. Click here to view highlights of the BU commencement.
