PhD Student Stryjewski in Natural History Magazine

February 20th, 2013

Katie Stryjewski was featured in the Natural History Magazine’s article, “Another Tenderfoot: Reflections on lessons learned by another young scientist eighty years ago.” Katie is a PhD candidate in Professor Michael D. Sorenson‘s lab in the Biology Department here at BU. She has traveled to New Guinea four times to investigate a speciation of birds in a group closely related to the finch species called muias (genus Lonchura). Back in 2011, she stumbled upon Ernst Mayr’s article from 1932, “A Tenderfoot Explorer in New Guinea” and was encouraged by it. He was also a biologist who collected as many rare and spectacular species as he could find in New Guinea.
