This practicum opportunity is designed for clinical psychology doctoral students who are later on in their training (3rd<\/i> or 4th<\/i> year). This opportunity is likely a good fit for individuals who have completed training and have experience in behavioral medicine\/health psychology and cognitive behavioral therapy.<\/div>\n
This opportunity is ideal for a student interested in pursuing clinical work in: \u00a0(1) clinical research and (2) traditional, outpatient clinical settings with a focus on caring for patients living with substance use disorders and HIV from underserved and multiply marginalized backgrounds. About half the clinical time will be in clinical research trials as an interventionist and the other half will be in clinical settings including \u00a0settings such as Low-Barrier \u201cBridge\u201d Clinics and\/or the Addiction Psychiatry Treatment Program.<\/div>\n
The practicum is designed to be a 16-20 hour\/week commitment with at least 25% in patient contact and at least 50% in service-related activities, although the time commitment is negotiable. Students will work closely with faculty (licensed clinical psychologists) and have the opportunity to attend weekly staff meetings, monthly journal club, and Psychiatry Grand Rounds. Students will participate in: supervision, substance use disorders case consultation, addiction treatment training opportunities, which would expose students to techniques for motivational interviewing, clinical harm reduction, cognitive and behavioral approaches to substance use treatment, and strategies to support recovery.<\/div>\n
