She is the co-developer of <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.asl-lex.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ASL-LEX<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a lexical database for American Sign Language published in Behavior Research Methods. She earned a joint PhD in Psychology and Cognitive Science from Tufts University, as well as an Ed.M. in Deaf Education and an M.A. in Psychology from Boston University.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Jennie Pyers, PhD\u00a0<\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/academics.wellesley.edu\/Psychology\/Pyers\/index.html\">Website<\/a><span>\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.wellesley.edu\/psychology\/faculty\/pyers#3qTptZrjKEd06eXl.97\">Lab Website<\/a><span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/aslvocab\/files\/2017\/02\/Pyers34-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Pyers34\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-75 size-thumbnail\" \/>Jennie Pyers is\u00a0an Associate Professor in Psychology at Wellesley College. \u00a0Her research focuses on the relationship between language and cognition. Her research focuses on the relationship between language and cognition. In particular, she examines both language-general and language-specific effects on human cognition. To investigate which domains of cognition are impaired when language acquisition is delayed, she works with language-delayed deaf children and Deaf adults who have learned an emerging sign language, Nicaraguan Sign Language. She also investigates how experience with a sign language affects spatial cognition and categorization. Her recent research interests also include language processing in hearing bimodal bilinguals\u2014Children of Deaf Adults who are fluent in both a signed and a spoken language\u2014and the relationship between gesture and spatial cognition.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Amy Lieberman, PhD\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/sed\/profile\/amy-m-lieberman\/\">Website<\/a><span>\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/lavalab\/\">Lab Website<\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/aslvocab\/files\/2017\/02\/Lieberman-Amy-Cropped-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Lieberman-Amy-Cropped\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-21 size-thumbnail\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/aslvocab\/files\/2017\/02\/Lieberman-Amy-Cropped-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/aslvocab\/files\/2017\/02\/Lieberman-Amy-Cropped.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Amy Lieberman is\u00a0an Assistant Professor in the Deaf Studies and Deaf Education Programs at Boston University. \u00a0She studies child language development,\u00a0with a particular interest in how deaf children learn to manage their eye gaze to perceive sign language and the surrounding world. \u00a0Prior to joining the BU Faculty, Amy worked as a Research Scientist in the Mayberry Lab for Multimodal Language Development at UCSD and as an Early Childhood Teacher at Kendall School at Gallaudet University. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/aslvocab\/files\/2019\/09\/Erin_headshot.jpg\" alt=\"download\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-84 size-thumbnail\" \/><strong>Erin Spurgeon, MA NIC<\/strong>\u00a0is a Nationally Certified Interpreter for the Deaf based in Boston, Massachusetts and graduated with a Masters in Interpretation from Gallaudet University.\u00a0 She has worked within a variety of laboratories studying ASL acquisition and psycholinguistic research including Dr. Peter Hauser at Rochester Institute of Technology, Dr. Karen Emmorey at San Diego State University, Dr. Carol Padden at University of California San Diego and Dr. Laura-Ann Pettito at Gallaudet University<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/aslvocab\/files\/2017\/10\/Anna_cropped.jpg\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-84 size-thumbnail\" p=\"\" \/><strong>Anna Lim Franck, MA<\/strong> is a second year student in the Doctor of Education in Language and Literacy Education: ASL\/Deaf Education program at Boston University. She graduated with a Master&#8217;s degree in Linguistics from Gallaudet University. She has worked on Haskins Laboratory&#8217;s ASL SLAAASh (Sign Language Acquisition, Annotation, Archiving and Sharing) project for linguists Drs. Diane Lillo-Martin and Julie Hochgesang. She is interested in research on L2 pedagogy\/acquisition of Deaf learners and educational issues in bilingualism in Deaf classrooms.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Graduate Students<\/h3>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/lexlab\/files\/2019\/09\/Mia-headshot_blue-1.jpg\" alt=\"download\" width=\"180\" height=\"135\" class=\" wp-image-160 alignleft\" \/><\/span>Mia Goldberg<\/strong>\u00a0is a graduate student in the Boston University Wheelock College of Education &amp; Human Development, pursuing in Deaf Education. After graduating, Mia plans to teach at school for the deaf. She also worked as a volunteer teacher in the Marshall Islands.
