March 6: Walking Tour
During the city walk, we went through the remarkable historical architecture and explored Barcelona’s architectural heritage restoration approach. In particular, the Gothic Quarter has a history of more than 2,000 years and is full of charm and fascinating architecture. During the trip, what I found most interesting was how the architecture in Barcelona was restored and transformed through history.
The history of Barcelona Cathedral dates back to the 13th to 15th centuries. The cathedral was initially designed in the Gothic style. During the renovation in the 19th century, Neo-Catholic fashion was introduced to the architecture to adjust to the current trend. Within the church, conventional elements illuminated the architecture, such as Saint George, which gave visitors an insight into the traditional culture of Barcelona.
The Gothic Quarter also includes modern elements that demonstrate how Catalonian art adjusted during modernism and urbanization. Specifically, COAC contains the design of Picasso to fit a modern vibe. On the other hand, the “EI Petó” wall introduced contemporary culture to the antique district, adding a vibrant atmosphere to ancient civilization. Such a combination condenses and illustrates the alteration of Catalonian culture.
During our city walk tour, we are glad to develop a more holistic comprehension of Catalonian culture. We found that super inspiring to know about the history and the tradition.
