{"id":362,"date":"2021-09-16T06:20:59","date_gmt":"2021-09-16T10:20:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/ampersandjournal\/?page_id=362"},"modified":"2023-11-15T12:25:07","modified_gmt":"2023-11-15T17:25:07","slug":"cfp","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/ampersandjournal\/cfp\/","title":{"rendered":"Call for Papers: Volume II Issue 3"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b><i>Tradition in Flux: Failure, Loss, and the Evolving Canon<br \/>\nNote: Abstract deadline has been extended to\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">November 30, 2023<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In past editions, our editorial team has challenged emerging scholars to reconsider <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/ampersandjournal\/volume-1-issue-3\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">spaces<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/ampersandjournal\/volume-1-issue-2\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">objects<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/ampersandjournal\/volume-ii-issue-1\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">archives<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/ampersandjournal\/volume-ii-issue-2-summer-2023\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">political and cultural power<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. For our Winter 2024 edition, we invite scholars to reexamine the idea of canonization through the lens of failure, broadly construed. Canons are created through hegemonic ideas of success, power, and artistry. How instead can scholars reclaim or redefine \u201cfailed,\u201d forgotten, or incomplete cultural objects? How can we situate ephemeral trends, \u201cone-hit wonders,\u201d overlooked or inaccessible archives, and unfinished works within broader cultural moments? What is the cultural role of \u201cbad\u201d or \u201ctrash\u201d art, literature, and media?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We believe fields are moved forward and remain relevant by the contributions of the newest scholars; for this reason, our journal centers the work of graduate students and emerging scholars. Historical period, disciplinary approach, method, and topic remain open for contribution provided the work addresses the non-canonical, broadly construed: unfinished works, \u201cbad\u201d art and cultural objects, one-hit wonders, and ephemera. We welcome polemic statements, theoretical interventions, creative approaches, personal, video and\/or photo essays, book or article reviews, methodological reflections, as well as traditional article-length texts of no more than 6500 words.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Please submit an abstract of 250-350 words and a short bio (100-150 words), along with your CV, to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/airtable.com\/appXyQg3pQrEZnm2T\/shrimFgUV0QcfHTD1\"><b>https:\/\/airtable.com\/appXyQg3pQrEZnm2T\/shrimFgUV0QcfHTD1<\/b><\/a><b>. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0All abstracts are due by <\/span><b>November 30, 2023<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
