He is also a Pulmonary\u00a0and Critical Care attending in the Pulmonary, Allergy, Sleep &amp; Critical Care Medicine Section of Boston University Chobanian &amp; Avedisian School of Medicine. Kostas obtained his\u00a0MD\u00a0and PhD degrees from the University of Athens in Greece<strong><span>.\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><span>He completed his internal medicine residency training at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas, TX followed by fellowships in Sleep Medicine and Pulmonary\/Critical Care Medicine at Boston University. During his fellowship, he trained in Dr. Darrell Kotton\u2019s laboratory at a time when reliable preclinical human disease models of pulmonary fibrosis were lacking. This inspired him to develop an iPSC platform for modeling the alveolar epithelial cell dysfunction at the inception of pulmonary fibrosis. She completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Chicago. In 2025, she completed her PhD in Immunology and Microbial Pathogenesis from Cornell University\/Memorial Sloan Kettering, where she studied the pulmonary immune response to the opportunistic fungal pathogen <\/span><i>Aspergillus fumigatus<\/i><span>. Her interest in lung epithelial cells led her to the CReM, where she is\u00a0using patient-derived iPSC\u00a0models to study genetic determinants of pulmonary fibrosis, with a particular emphasis on telomere-related gene variants. He completed an internal medicine residency at Brigham and Women\u2019s Hospital, and is now a pulmonary fellow at Boston University \/ Boston Medical Center. He is interested in interstitial lung disease and pursuing a better understanding of the molecular mechanisms at play in fibrotic lung disease.
