Workshop: Developing and Communicating your Academic Brand

BU URBAN is collaborating with Sasha Goldman from BU PDPA and Amanda Bolgioni-Smith from BU CTSI on a two-part series focused on building, developing, and communicating your academic brand. For all doctoral students, the ability to package and convey your research and expertise can be critical in initiating research or outreach collaborations, building your network, and seeking job opportunities. For URBAN trainees, this skill is necessary for forming effective partnerships with governments, non-governmental organizations, and the private sector to tackle urban environmental challenges. Details about the two-part series below.

Monday, March 8, 12:00 – 1:00 pm. Building an Online Academic Presence, facilitated by Sasha Goldman of BU PDPA. A recording of the session can be found here and the slides can be downloaded here.

Tuesday, March 16, 4:00 – 5:15. Developing and Communicating your Academic Brand, facilitated by Amanda Bolgioni-Smith of BU CTSI. This workshop is open to anyone who participated in the March 8 Academic Presence Workshop or viewed the recordings. This session is a required program element for 1st year URBAN trainees. All URBAN trainees are highly encouraged to attend. Register below and in preparation, reflect on and be ready to articulate:

  • What do you stand for?
  • How would others brand you?
  • Who is your target audience?
  • How do you want to differentiate yourself?

Finally, for participating and interested students, BU URBAN will organize the delivery of snacks to your home via GrubHub, following the style of a “coffee break.” If you would like to receive a snack, complete the form here (opens in new tab) by Tuesday, March 16, at 12pm EST.
