Renal Crisis Working Group

The SCTC Scleroderma Renal Crisis Working Group

The SCTC is supporting a new working group to develop a consensus definition for scleroderma renal crisis (SRC) and improve systematic research in this condition. There is an increasing number of clinical trials in SSc being planned, many in early diffuse disease. These represent unique opportunities to identify and study SRC. However, this will only be possible if investigators use a common definition of SRC. We expect that the consensus definition of SRC will be adopted in future clinical trials of SSc and data collected on SRC subjects in the context of those trials will contribute to fill important gaps in our knowledge of SRC.

The working group has already created a core committee composed of rheumatologists and nephrologists. A protocol for a scoping literature review has been finalized and the review is underway. This will be followed by a Delphi exercise and nominal group discussion.

A face-to-face meeting is planned to coincide with the American College of Rheumatology Annual Scientific Meeting 2016 and will be open to all interested members of SCTC. Announcements of this meeting will be made in the weeks prior to the meeting. For further enquiries, please contact the co-chairs, Dr Marie Hudson (Canada) or Dr Chris Denton (UK).
