Renal Crisis Working Group

SCTC Scleroderma Renal Crisis Working Group

The SCTC is supporting a working group to develop classification criteria for scleroderma renal crisis (SRC) and improve systematic research in this condition. There is an increasing number of clinical trials in SSc being planned, many in early diffuse disease. These represent unique opportunities to identify and study SRC. However, this will only be possible if investigators use a validated definition of SRC. We expect that the criteria will be adopted in future clinical trials of SSc and data collected on SRC subjects in the context of those trials will contribute to fill important gaps in our knowledge of SRC.

The working group has already completed a scoping literature review, Delphi exercise and nominal group discussion to identify a core set of items. Two additional components of this research project are now in the planning phases:

– Modeled on the first International Scleroderma Renal Crisis Survey (ISRCS), ISRCS II will be   developed and launched to collect a new inception SRC cohort to validate the items and develop classification criteria using data-driven methods.

– A forced choice study using multi-criteria decision analysis methods will be performed to assign weights to the items in the criteria.
